We Will Always Remember | March 25th, 2013

Cannot believe it has been a year … March 25th, 2013. It was raining this very day last year and this year, snow! I’ve realized that over this past year has been hard on my family and there are times where you know he’s in a better place and then other times where it just hits you like a freight train. It’s a strange feeling for sure and I know that everyone has experienced this in their lifetime. It was a year ago today that my granddad passed away and my heart is filled with sorrow once again just remembering the flash backs from last year.

He is always brought up in some sort of random conversation, but a conversation of laughter and joy remembering the good ol’ days with him. Like when my family created monthly get togethers to sit around in the living room to sing and play the banjo, guitar, bass, harmonica … of course we always look back on his favorite song, “There’s a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea“. Every time it makes me smile just remembering his contagious laugh as he tried to get through the entire song without cracking! Another thing I know that when blackberries are in season, he’s going to be on my mind. I remember him going out to the garden and picking a WHOLE bucket full for us to eat for breakfast or for grandma to make blackberry cobbler … mmmm!

My grandfather and I when I was a little gal!

Even with all of the good memories on our mind, we are still battling with the real world. It has been a ROUGH year for my grandmother. I cannot imagine losing the man you have loved and grown old with until his final days. I feel for her and I know that my family is doing as much as they can at the moment … so I pray that things turn around to the positive light for her.

Photo was taken right before his passing.

 ”He Only Takes The Best

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered, “Come to Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands put to rest.
God broke our hearts
To prove to us,

He only takes the best.”

I will always remember and love you granddad, even if you are not here with us, you are still in our hearts forever and always! <3
