I met Jim & Emily around the Tidal Basin with their adorable pup, along with their dog-sitters for the session! I immediately noticed Emily’s great taste in clothing when she had her red heels. I’m a sucker for a colored heel. 🙂 We walked around … a lot, but the funny thing is that during this engagement session, I saw more of DC than I probably ever have! Basically took the monument tour around the tidal basin, which the setting was perfect for these two!
There is a lovely vibe between these two. Jim is a very sweet hearted man who obviously is the protector in the relationship. Thank you for your service, Jim! Emily has a sweet and contagious smile with a fun sense of humor! Our laughs carried through the entire session, especially when the pup was brought out because who doesn’t love a dog in a shoot!? Adorable moments between the cute “family”. 🙂 So envious of the space you two get to enjoy often around these monuments. These spots I will definitely be returning to and enjoy myself in the next couple months!
Jim & Emily’s Love Story
Almost three years ago now, we ended up at the same roof-top party through a mutual friend in D.C. Emily – the shy girl from PA who just moved to DC to start a job and grad school, and Jim – the not-so-shy Navy boy from WI stationed in VA Beach who just so happened to be visiting the same friend that weekend. Emily’s friends all convinced her to talk to the cute boy on the couch, and Jim just knew all the right words to say. We hit if off right away. Emily had NO expectation of this roof-top chat going anywhere, but decided to give Jim her number anyway … cue “CALL ME MAYBE?”
Well, the Navy boy called Emily the next day and ever since then, we have been inseparable. After two years of dating, through all of the UP’s and DOWN’s of new jobs, grad school, and the commute, Jim proposed. Jim waited for a night that Emily had NO IDEA the proposal was coming. Emily always ruins surprises so Jim waited until she was in the worst mood possible (and before running a 10K the next day) to pop the question. Emily could not believe it. We celebrated (held the champagne toast until after the 10K) and could not wait to tell our friends and family.
We have been commuting since August 2011 between D.C. and VA Beach, and we are celebrating Jim’s permanent move to D.C. by taking our engagement photos 🙂 … with the newest addition to our family – Gypsy – our rescue Beagle puppy.
It has been a crazy ride getting to this point, but we are so excited for the next chapter in our lives and to begin the wedding planning!
