What’s for Breakfast?

I remember the days of not giving a care in the world what I would eat for breakfast. Lucky Charms? YES! Captin’ Crunch? LOVE IT! Fruit Loops? ABSOLUTELY! Anyways, you get the point. They all have one thing in common … SUGAR. I will admit that I have a sweet tooth but doesn’t mean that I should give into the sweetness from breakfast to dinner. Before leaving for the beach, I wanted to substitute fake sugars with healthy sugars in the morning. I’m still ending up with the sweet cravings from the fruit sugars without it being a toll on my health and body. I’ve been testing out many different variations of breakfast smoothies and have had success so far making them! Not only are they healthy and allowing you to start the morning off with fresh and nutritious vitamin sources … but it is YUMMY! I thought I would share some of the recipes I’ve been playing with so you can also test out some of these on your own!

Many of these fruits are in season and are reasonably priced! Especially if you were to go into a farm market and find some fresh and local fruits/veggies to use … even better! In fact, the blackberries you see below are blackberries from Kyle’s garden. SWEET! Talk about feeling even better about what you’re eating!

I’m absolutely not a pro at this, but just thought I would share some healthy alternatives to a good breakfast. 🙂 One note … you can absolutely switch out milk with other ingredients like greek yogurt or coconut milk.

This smoothie below was one recipe I started off with before experimenting with other ingredients. Easy, simple and sweet!
Banana Smoothie Ingredients:
2 ripe bananas
2 cups of milk
1 tablespoon of honey
Ice

Strawberry Spinach Smoothie Ingredients:
2 cup of strawberries
2 cups of spinach
1 ripe banana
2 cups of milk
1 tablespoon of honey
Ice

Berry + Banana Smoothie Ingredients:
2 ripe bananas
1 cup of blueberries
1 cup of strawberries
2 cups of spinach
3 cups of milk
1 tablespoon of honey
A splash of vanilla to taste
Ice

Blackberry + Banana Smoothie Ingredients:
2 cup of blackberries
2 ripe bananas
2 cups of spinach
3.5 cups of milk
1 tablespoon of honey
A splash of vanilla to taste
A dash of cinnamon to taste
Ice

The list can go ON! Seriously, you can just type in fruits that you want to make a smoothie with online and you’re bound to find an ideal recipe that will work for you. These are ingredients that I’ve played with it’s obvious that I love bananas! The nice thing about adding bananas into the recipe, it heightens the taste and sweetens the flavor. And I LOVE adding spinach into the smoothie because you cannot taste it! I’m getting nutrients from the leafy greens, which makes it even more enticing to drink in the morning to start off the day!

If you have any fruits around the house and want to use them before they go to waste, I would highly recommend making a smoothie out of them! The best part is that you aren’t forced to drink the entire thing in one sitting! I make a large portion so I’m able to have it throughout the week. Quick, easy and healthy breakfast!

What’s your favorite healthy breakfast smoothie recipe? I’m about to start playing with avocados, cucumbers and other interesting combinations soon. 🙂
