There are times when I just need some sort of change. I have always looked to interior decorating as that outlet for my change crave. In middle school I was convinced I was going to be an interior designer when I grew up! My mom and I were OBSESSED with decorating shows. Remember Trading Spaces? Oh yeah, we even tried applying for the show. Haha! I love being able to mix and match colors and textures around the room. When I first moved in my rental house June 2013 (crazyyyyyyy how time has flown!), I was on a TIGHT budget trying to decorate the house. Plus trying to whip up the decor enough to invite people over in a short amount of time while in the middle of wedding season was super tough. I decided it was time for a spruce up while keeping my budget in mind.
BEFORE
I didn’t rearrange or purchase new furniture, but I absolutely needed to feel that change when I walked into the room. Number one thing that will help that change crave? Textiles! Pillows transform a room instantly! With the dark browns and the reds throughout the space, the room felt dark. I decided to go in a blue/white/brown approach with the new decor to brighten the space and add some textures and layers. Making these small adjustments really transformed the space enough to make me excited for spring! 🙂
I walked into Home Goods and walked out with an entire new wardrobe for my living room! One stop shopping is the BEST! 🙂 I have been so tempted to purchase new couches, but knowing how expensive it is to invest I decided that it wasn’t absolutely necessary. More budget friendly option? New pillows! Plus, if I happen to purchase a new couch in the future and do not need these pillows, they can always be re-situated around the house in some way. Throwing a throw blanket over the edge of the couch also brings in a splash of color. I’m convinced I don’t need to spend $1,000+ on new couches. 🙂 Whew!
So I had these jellyfish photos already hung before redecorating the space … now it really seems like I’m going in the beach approach. Haha!
I thought Kate Spade’s books were appropriate coffee table books. 🙂
Here’s a little trick when you are decorating your coffee table …
Display this combination together:
1) Plant
2) Books (interesting for your guest to pick up). Place either a candle or an element on top of the books to create layers.
3) Candles
4) A fun element
Keep the details in your color scheme and you will have a very polished and thoughtful presentation.
This light blue candle shown below has the BEST scent! Even Kyle approves!!!
Can I just say I’m ecstatic that tulips are back?!
Beautiful calligraphy by my talented friend, Rachel! “Let all that you do be done in love” – 1 Corinthians 16:14
The lamps were another investment that really transformed the space to bring in that brightness. Plus, the texture is great with this room!
This pot was Kyle’s touch. 🙂 Haha!
If you are looking for a change on a budget, go into Home Goods before spring! 🙂 They had everything I needed … one stop shopping is the best, especially when you want to make sure you stay within your budget.
