Telephoto Lens | 70-200mm

70-200mm | Telephoto Lens, Virginia Wedding Photographer

Well, it has been a LONG time since I was writing these posts regarding my equipment lineup! Since I just closed the Best of 2015 series, it’s time for a new chapter of blog posts. πŸ™‚ I have so far gone over the macro lens and a wide angle lens. Let’s go in the opposite direction of a wide angle to a nice and tight shot using the 70-200mm.

Typically I don’t photograph with zoom lenses, but THIS LENS is a must for a wedding day in my book!!! πŸ™‚ As a rule of thumb for me, the last thing I want to do is be distracting to the wedding guests during the ceremony. I stay to the sides and back as much as possible and really use my 70-200mm to get up nice and close without being in the way of any guests. My job is to be discrete as possible while getting the desired photos. I try to pay attention to anticipated emotions from the bride, groom, their parents, wedding party and any guests. With the 70-200mm, I don’t need to be in their face letting them know I’m photographing their little moment. πŸ™‚

I know some photographers who photograph with a prime 200mm and although it offers SUPER DREAMY bokeh which is undeniably desired, I love having the range of the zoom variation for the ceremony. As you can see below that I really do fluctuate between 70mm and 200mm. Variation is a GREAT thing in a collection of photos. Whether it’s a portrait session or a wedding being photographed, up-close, mid-range and far away shots are ideal!Β That’s where this lens comes in handy! You can see some samples below of how I use this lens. πŸ™‚ LOVE it!

This is a must have in my bag for every wedding I photograph! Although, I must admit that it is a bit of a workout holding it up for so long! πŸ˜‰ You can see how this lens can be used throughout the ceremony. Very helpful and most importantly, I’m able to let the ceremony run the show without me running through it! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!! xoxo!
