I was nervous … Nervous that Pixie wasn’t going to adjust to the new space … Nervous that Pixie would want to flee from being an official “indoor cat” … Nervous that she would be depressed. That may seem a bit extreme but she was very depressed living at my parents house. She enjoyed living in the rental house in Marshall for two years because I would take her outside at least three times a week to enjoy the fresh air. Once I brought her to my parents house to live there while my house was being built, it was obvious how unhappy she was. We had to lock her in one room because she didn’t get along with the other cats. It was SO sad to see her like that. In order for her to be able to run around the house, we had to push the other cats outside. We tried giving her and the cats time to adjust to each other but it was clear that Pixie was stressed. She hated life because she didn’t feel welcomed and didn’t want to adjust. She not only growled, hissed, scratched the other cats but also anyone around her, even me! This was not like her at all. 🙁 We even tried the cat pheromones … I personally didn’t see a difference in the chemistry of the cats. It was just hard to see her like that.
Once March came, it was time to bring her to this new space. I really thought she was going to rebel and run away for good. Too much change in such a short amount of time. I tried to stay positive thinking that she will enjoy an entire house to herself rather than just one room. I brought her over one night and she was a bit stunned. She ran up and down the stairs several times checking out her surroundings and would not stop. I don’t blame her! The next morning I found her hidden under the guest bed. I was sad to see her scared and unsure of the space but I also knew that it would take time. It wasn’t long before she adjusted! In just a day or two, she was playfully running around the house! In fact, as I’m writing this blog post, she’s running back and forth between the dining room and living room getting her exercise! Lol! I love seeing her feel “free” and happy! She has this little cow toy she has been carrying around since she was a kitten and since moving in here, she has been carrying it around with her like the old days. She has really made this space her home and I’m happy to know that she’s happy.
Here are some random photos taken on my IPhone since moving her in!!! 🙂
Photo of us right before she moved in. 🙂 | She really enjoys when I am working on craft projects!
She loves my white comforter …. Should’ve figured! | She also enjoys her cat window hammock. 🙂
Often, you will find her in her happiest state when she’s in the middle of the room on her back surrounded by toys. LOL! | I feel like she has been enjoying the guest bedroom way too much. 😉
When I got fish, it was the best thing EVER. She was occupied for hours which was convenient since I had a wedding the next day. 🙂 | The right photo … Lol! … I woke up one morning to find her like this randomly in my bedroom. I have no idea how to explain that. I was worried that she wasn’t alive! She’s a special cat … 😉
Such a relief knowing that Pixie loves living here! The best part? She doesn’t hiss, bite or scratch those she used to abuse! Haha! That was enough proof that she’s happy. 🙂
