Oh where do I even begin with this fun California trip?! The idea of visiting California started over Christmas break when my friend, Katelynn, and I were talking about when I could visit her. She has lived in LA since high school graduation (nine years ago!) so I don’t get to see her as often as I wish! She’s doing great things and I’m excited to see where her styling career takes her!! Definitely check out here work HERE! Katelynn’s sweet cousin Ally got engaged and asked if I was free for her wedding day. 🙂 Ally and I have known each other for a longggg time and I could not be more ecstatic/honored to document her and her fiancé!!
Originally, Ally and I talked about doing engagement portraits in Virginia since they are getting married in Northern Virginia next year. After we talked about location options, the timing worked out where I could photograph their engagement session in California while I was visiting Katelynn on my way back from Hawaii! Although, I wasn’t in California for very long we hoped the weather was going to be gracious to us. Which of course it did as we ended with a spectacular sunset!! It was the most appropriate backdrop for their photos since it’s their home and the very place where they met. I love traveling to significant locations!! Their engagement session was my first time meeting Jacob and I could not imagine a better man for Ally! They really balance each other so nicely and are so gosh darn gorgeous together! Following our awesome time together, we went out for a yummy dinner in downtown Santa Monica. I had the chance to really get to know them better as a coupe and I promise you’ll be finding these two on TV in the near future!! They have BIG dreams and I love that they are chasing them without any hesitation! Ally is very knowledgeable when it comes to healthy eating while Jacob is super talented in videography! In fact, he actually works with the hit TV show, Survivor! SO awesome!!! Anyways, they have combined their passion for food, film and travel by launching a pilot episode called, “Vegan on a Jet Plane”. Definitely check it out HERE!

JACOB & ALLY’S LOVE STORY
Ally and Jacob met in January 2011 at their apartment in Santa Monica. Ally was looking places to live that were closer to Malibu, where she was attending business school at the time. She went on Craigslist and came across an ad for an apartment in Santa Monica that was close to the PCH. The roommate (Jacob) seemed like a good person to live with, he “worked nights and weekends and was never home” and “was very quiet and does not watch TV.” Ally set up an appointment for the next day to meet Jacob and see the apartment. They talked for 20 minutes and Jacob let Ally know he was meeting with other people and would let her know by the end of the day if he “picked” her as his roommate but as soon as he saw her he knew Ally was the roommate for him. He texted her that evening asking if she wanted to be his roomie, and she moved in the next day.
Five years later, Jacob proposed to Ally on December 29th 2015. After spending Christmas separately with their families, Jacob drove from Massachusetts to Virginia to spend some time with Ally’s family. The following day they drove down to Charleston, SC for a mini-vacation before heading back to Los Angeles. The day of the proposal Jacob was being extra nice to Ally, he took her on a horse and carriage ride, bought her a rose made of a palm leaf, and bought her drinks from a cute dessert bar. He then took her on a long romantic walk, which was really a scouting mission to find a place to propose. He set up a camera to “take a time-lapse of the trees” and then proposed to Ally under the Spanish Moss trees at Battery Park. She cried and said yes. They Facetimed their families and went to go celebrate at a Thai restaurant, Ally’s favorite cuisine. The next day they drove to VA to show Ally’s family the ring, and the following day they drove up to MA to celebrate with Jacob’s family.
