Jake & Meredith | D.C. Engagement Photographer

It’s not very often I book a D.C. engagement session as most of my couples tend to stay towards the country. One routine I love to identify with my couples is figuring out an ideal atmosphere for their portrait session. I will not place city people in the middle of a field if that’s “not them.” Jake and Meredith live in the city, so D.C. was an appropriate location for their engagement portraits. 🙂 Especially since their wedding is taking place at a Virginia winery, creating a nice contrast!

We met at 7 a.m. on a Monday in D.C. … Sounds horrible, right? Not really! We got together for sunrise on Columbus Day morning; we didn’t have any traffic or crowds. Talk about ideal!!! One thing we didn’t calculate was the wind and cold temps. This session felt like my official first fall session … Or winter session! Jake and Meredith were smart and brought winter coats to bundle in between shots. Yes, it was that cold! Plus, we still had the Hurricane Matthews wind chill lingering that morning making it feel colder than 40 degrees. I guess this weather is prepping us for Jake and Meredith’s winter wedding. 🙂 Cannot wait to kick off the Christmas season with their special day in December! It’s going to be beautiful!

I loved the time I had with Jake and Meredith, Monday morning! Within the first minute of photographing them, I was already excited about the results! The way Jake makes Meredith smile and laugh, so precious. 🙂 Speaking of adorable, you have to read their love story below! Love these two!

JAKE & MEREDITH’S LOVE STORY

How Jake and Meredith Met

“It all started with a similar taste in apartments, and a similar love for Amazon. It grew into love for each other.

Meredith wanted a book. Jake wanted some movies. They’d both slept late on this Saturday *cough*afternoon*cough* (surprise anyone?), and were rushing to make it to the package room before it closed for the weekend. Meredith was there first, but Jake made quite the loud second entrance. The package room said be back in five minutes, and they agreed to wait. Conversation started and twenty minutes later, they knew they weren’t getting packages that day, but might be getting something better.

Unfortunately, neither had a cell phone, and neither knew what to do… or what the other person’s name was. The clock was ticking on the elevator, and Jake stepped out. Meredith made it to her floor alone and walked towards her apartment disappointed. Halfway there, Jake made another loud entrance and caught up to her in the hallway. He couldn’t risk not running into her again, and she agreed. Numbers (and first names) were exchanged, and what could have been the creepiest story ever… became our story… because Meredith said yes.”

How Jake Proposed to Meredith
“And then Meredith had the opportunity to say yes again one beautiful October day last year when Jake took her to their favorite apple orchard for their traditional apple picking session. (Followed, of course, by their traditional Renaissance Festival visit–a nice couple’s compromise.) Jake had been acting grumpy all day, but he was only doing so to throw Meredith off the scent. He also kept challenging Meredith to pick apples that were way too high up in the trees for her short arms. On the very last row of trees, Jake asked Meredith to pick a gorgeous apple that was just out of her reach. She stood on her tiptoes, finally caught it, and triumphantly turned around… only to find Jake down on one knee! He could barely get the words out of his mouth before she said yes and hug-tackled him, and then he made her put on the ring before he dropped it in the grass. Now, a year later, they’re getting ready to say yes again to each other in just less than two months!”

Thank you, Jake and Meredith, for a wonderful time together! Cannot WAIT for December!!!! Congrats on your engagement and looking forward to catching up next month for our final meeting! Woohoo! 🙂
