Where do I even begin with this post?! I met Devin and Makalea through my sweet photography teacher/friend, Michelle Lieb, and I’m so thankful they had me help them celebrate their special day. 🙂 Their wedding day has been long awaited as they are high school sweethearts and were in love with each other before they even realized it! From the toasts on Saturday, it seemed like everyone else knew they were in love with each other before they started dating. 🙂 Seriously, this wedding was the perfect start to the 2017 year!
Leading up to Saturday, the weather forecasters were calling for cold temps and rain. We prayed throughout the week, and our prayers were answered!!! We ended up with decent March weather! 🙂 Although, I’m so fortunate Devin and Makalea were flexible because we ended up with an unexpected thunderstorm 5-minutes into the portrait time. We took cover and decided to use the awning outside on the second story for shelter as we utilized the natural lighting. They were in high spirits, and I’m glad we took advantage of the beautiful views when we did!!! Also, a HUGE shout out to my friend/second shooter, Krysta Norman, for helping me throughout the day!!! Without her, some of these moments would not have been possible!
If you do not know Devin and Makalea, I think you’ll get a great sense of who these two are looking through their photos. Devin is genuine, athletic and dapper kind of man, while Makalea is beautiful inside and out, authentic and a complete bombshell. Together, they make the perfect couple! By the way, I’m joining the Mak-a-lea Hawaiian train!!! Lol! I have to admit that I have been calling her, “Makalea” since my first meeting with her, and when she introduced herself to Krysta with her Hawaiian name, I had a little freakout moment that I have been butchering her name this entire time! It wasn’t until the speeches when I figured out that half of the family/friends call her by her Hawaiian name, so I didn’t have to feel as embarrassed. 😉 HAHA!
I’m absolutely obsessed with Devin and Makalea’s travel-inspired wedding details! Devin and Makalea have a passion for travel and really made that vision come to life on their special day. On each table, they included a place they visited and explored, sharing their memories on a card that could be passed around the table. Their rose gold theme carried throughout their details, including the table names as well as Makalea’s jewelry. They thought through every detail! The table name was displayed in a circular “globe” with cut out calligraphy, a beautiful and unique setup! Meme Shumaker helped with florals around the reception/cocktail hour room by adding her touch in the centerpieces as the huge cork “G” Devin and Makalea made. I also loved how the seating chart titled, “Where in the World are you sitting?” tied in the travel theme as well!
With details set aside, Devin and Makalea’s primary focus was PEOPLE. It was evident how much everyone at the wedding meant to them. They made sure to take the time to greet and celebrate with all family and friends who attended. I love that! It was an honor to document the small and big moments, and I’m forever grateful my business connected me with this genuine, fun, loving couple!!!
Thank you, Devin and Makalea, for giving me the incredible honor of documenting your wedding day!!! I have been anxious to share these photos with you!!! Enjoy reminiscing your wedding day through my lens! Have the BEST time in Argentina, you world traveler you!! CONGRATS!!! XOXO!!!
