Michele and I met back in … 2008?? I cannot quite remember the year, but it has been a while!! We were both in the MRDs as piccolo players (GO DUKES!!!) and I remember making the connection with her right off the bat when we realized our hometowns weren’t that far away from each other. In fact, after college, I randomly ran into Michele when I was out with my family! Small world. 🙂
I was excited when I saw Michele’s email in my inbox regarding her and Rob’s engagement/wedding. 🙂 I didn’t know Rob personally, but I looked forward to meeting him after Michele told me their love story! After looking around for their ideal engagement location, they chose Old Town Alexandria because of the waterfront area — Great choice! The lighting there is always dreamy!!! 🙂 I pulled up to our meeting location and noticed a large group standing next to them. I thought to myself, “Wow, they have a lot of friends who want to be a part of this session!” Haha! Turned out that location was a Pokemon stop. Lol! To say the least, we had a little bit of an audience at one point. 😉
Once I got them warmed up in front of the camera, I was also happy to see Rob enjoying himself. As you can imagine, men are a little unsure about having their portraits taken. Rob was so playful with Michele and beamed seeing her laugh, smile and giggle throughout our time together. I’m sure their relationship is every bit of that! 🙂 I love how they make each other happy!! After a great time running around Old Town, we ended the session on a high note by the water at sunset. When looking through their photos, I love how we moved from greenery to pink/pastels to neutral/blue backdrops. 🙂 Beautiful day for a beautiful and happy session!! I cannot wait for their wedding day!!!

I started working in the social studies department at Woodbridge Senior High School in the Fall of 2013, and Rob was already working in the science department there. We didn’t actually meet, however, until the Spring of 2015, when we both volunteered to help with a senior class event, Grill on the Hill. He came over to talk to me, and I really don’t even remember what he was talking to me about, because I was thinking “I hate small talk…think of something to talk about that isn’t small talk…. Oh, wait…he has a Mets hat on!” So I cut him off and asked him if he was a Mets fan. That got us talking about New York, and the great things about it. School let out for the summer and we didn’t talk to each other again until the school year started back up.
At the beginning of the school year, I took on the responsibility of decorating the Social Studies Department’s bulletin board, and Rob needing a way to talk to me, kept making jokes about the board, or pointing out things that were slightly off (I’m really hate when things aren’t “right”). That got us talking a lot more, and after the first week of school was done, we went to a happy hour with some coworkers. While we were there, Rob asked if I would want to go to the Nats-Mets game that Monday, Labor Day, and I said sure!

Once I decided that Michele was the one person I wanted to be with the rest of my life I knew that my proposal had to be something that we both will remember for the rest of our lives. After talking with my son, Ethan, and her parents about the proposal and got the OK from all three, I told Ethan about our plan, as I wanted him to be a part of the proposal. Having been with Michele for almost 2 years, Ethan and I have come to learn that otters are her favorite animals, and so I decided to use otters in the proposal. We got three stuffed animal otters: a daddy otter, a mommy otter, and an Ethan (kid) Otter. Since we were going to asking Michele on Easter, I took the ring and put in into a plastic Easter egg. Ethan and I then put the Easter egg with the mommy otter and came down stairs in the house and surprised Michele by asking her if she would like to join our otter family and if she would be our mommy otter. She obviously said yes!
Thank you, Rob and Michele, for a great time in Old Town Alexandria!!! I loved seeing you two have so much fun in front of my camera! 🙂 I cannot wait for next July!!! For now, enjoy some of my favorites from our time together!!! Xoxo!
