What a dreamy engagement session!!! That’s all I could think when I left last Thursday’s engagement session. We had the most incredible sunset, and I’m so glad we took advantage of the colorful skies by the water! David, Michaela and I met at the beautiful Mount Vernon estates, where we were able to run around with ZERO crowds. Talk about ideal!!! 😉 We photographed around the gardens and the mansion before changing into their more formal outfit. Then we made our way down towards the water. It was special because that was the very place David proposed to Michaela!! I’ll let David tell you how he did it below. 😉 Let’s just say they also had a colorful sky to admire!
We took full advantage of our time together running all over the grounds. But goodness … I cannot tell you how many spiders we saw!!! Yikes! After all of the spiders I’ve been dealing with recently, I’m ready for a break! 😉 I had a close call almost sticking my head right into a spider web with a huge spider on it towards the end of David and Michaela’s session … WHEW. So glad they didn’t have to witness me in freak out mode. 😉 But it was allllll worth it!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 HA! We definitely didn’t want a Halloween shoot.
These two have been together for … basically forever! I had the best time documenting their smiles and laughs exchanged between one another. I mean, they have to know each other VERY well if they met back in middle school! So impressive! I’m happy to see them start making plans for their big day! I know it’s going to be a beautiful celebration!!! <3
David & Michaela’s Love Story
How David and Michaela Met
from Michaela’s point of view
David and I met for the first time in middle school, he was in eighth grade and I was in seventh. I developed a little school crush on him but it had never developed into anything more than that. Fast forward to the summer before my senior year of high school when we ended up meeting again through mutual friends of my sisters’. My sister and I were having a get together and David ended up coming with a group of friends my sister had invited. I instantly felt a pull towards him, and it did not take long for me to realize that my school crush on him was still there. David had this infectious energy and the most adorable laugh. Whenever I was around him I could not help but want to spend all my time right next to him. Throughout my senior year we spent a lot of time hanging out together with a group of shared friends. During that time, we grew closer and became better friends. I started to really realize how sweet, genuine, and caring he was. David was such a kindhearted person and I always felt very comfortable and safe around him. However, I was still too nervous to share my feelings for him. It was not until the next summer that I started to feel things change in our friendship. We started texting more and making plans to hangout almost every weekend. At this time, we both knew how each other felt but we were both too shy to say anything. Then, on July 4th, 2011, David finally asked me out on our first date! I remember it being so subtle that I was unsure if he was asking me out on a date or just asking me to hangout. That night our plans did not go exactly as planned but our relationship only grew from there!
How David Proposed to Michaela
from David’s point of view
That night, as we were driving to Mount Vernon, I was so nervous I don’t know how Michaela couldn’t figure out something was up. My heart was pounding the whole time, I still didn’t know the exact logistics of how I would propose, all I knew was that I was going to do it while the fireworks were going off. We made our way to the water where there was a nice wooden bench which was conveniently fit for two. That night was freezing cold so Michaela was curled up in a blanket. Once we were sitting there and the fireworks were going off, my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my heart. About one minute into it, I just knew it was the perfect time, and apparently everyone else knew as well because Michaela’s mom and her sisters made their way behind us and had their cameras out ready to take pictures. I got down on one knee and everything felt like it was in slow motion, I told her how much I love her and asked if she would marry me. It was hard even saying anything because we were both holding back tears. I remember the moment I put the ring on her finger and kissed her – I could feel how much love we had for each other and how it would last forever. I still love thinking about it to this day because everything just felt so right!
Thank you, David and Michaela, for a magical session!!! I loved documenting your love, especially at the very place you two decided to take your relationship to the next level. <3 A BIG congrats to you both!!! Enjoy some of my MANY favorites!!! XOXO!
