So, you might have seen a lot of photos of Ollie on my blog, Facebook,Β and Instagram, but Pixie was my original SMP mascot!!! Recently, she celebrated her SIXTH year in this world! Thinking about where these past six years went, I’ll never know. It was around this time when I was seriously considering officially opening Stephanie Messick Photography, which is why she’s my original mascot! π So much has happened since then!!!
This post has me thinking about the first time I brought Pixie home. I remember my sister calling the house saying she found a stranded kitten outside of her work. Amanda and her co-workers knew she was abandoned because the mamma cat was having litter after litter, and eventually didn’t care for them anymore. Poor kitties!!! Living on a farm, we were used to taking care of abandoned cats, so as soon as she called about Pixie, my mom and I took off to help this little one. #ReasonsWhyImNotAllowedAtTheSPCA … π Hopefully, that mamma cat was spayed since then … She doesn’t need to be dumping cats left and right! Animals deserve to feel loved and cared for. <3
I had NO idea how to take care of a four-day-old kitten, but I made it work!!Β It’s funny because Pixie wasn’t even really supposed to be my cat, but after all of the care, attention, and money I poured into her life, she became my own. <3 I nurtured her all day and night, which was EXHAUSTING. So thinking about what I do with Ollie isn’t too much different with Pixie. Except, I’m not bottle feeding him or teaching him to use a litter box. π It’s a lot of work, but gosh, those baby years flew by so fast that I forgot all of the hard work that went into raising her! Isn’t that what mothers say about their kids? Haha! I learned so much how I raised Pixie, not like dogs and cats are exactly the same, but she’s sooooo independent and honestly, a bit of a princess. I’m sure a lot of it had to do with the fact that she wasn’t raised by a mamma cat, but I’m making sure to socialize Ollie a LOT and expose him to the outdoor world as often as possible. π Speaking of Ollie, Pixie isn’t the happiest kitty right now. Although she sleeps in the same room as him, so I guess time will really tell how their relationship develops. Right now she is dominating the upstairs level of the house and growls at him when Ollie gets too close. I hope one day they can be best friends. π
This year, I wanted to make sure her birthday was special! Afterall, I’ve put her through a lot of stress with Ollie now in the picture. Brainstorming what to do for her birthday brought me back to her very first birthday celebration. Do you remember the shoot??? It was an unforgettable one, that’s for sure!! Actually, even Charming Charlie featured it on their social media!!!! She’s famous! π Haha! This year, I decided it would be fun for her to do another cake smash, and she loved EVERY second of it!!!!
