Now that time has passed, and Brett and Shelby had the chance to tell their family and friends the big news, I can finally share these pretty photos!!! Last month, I had the opportunity to go undercover and photograph a proposal at the beautiful Barboursville Vineyards. Going undercover to shoot a proposal is as nerve-wracking as you think it is!!! HAHA! As I anticipated for Brett and Shelby’s arrival at the ruins, I heard a man and a woman walk up, and I thought, “THEY ARE HERE!!!!” I slowly peeked my head and lens from behind a bush and saw a camera pointing back at me!!! Mind you, I was already sweating from how HOT it was outside (totally an attractive look meeting a couple for the first time, you should try it!), and this surprise startled me!! Fortunately, the lady who spotted me was just a casual visitor… Thank goodness Brett prompted me to look for a gal wearing a red hat otherwise, I would have been caught! After being surprised by the visitor, I just casually buried myself back into the bush because you know, that’s the normal and not suspicious thing to do. HAHA! I didn’t have time to explain myself in case Brett and Shelby were right behind. And the awkwardness of my job just jumped to a new level after that experience … Whatever. WORTH IT!!!

Brett and Shelby finally arrived, and as Shelby looked around admiring the ruins, Brett guided her up the stairs where he wanted to pop the question. I would love to know the conversation leading up to him asking for her hand, but I’m sure it’s a blur for both of them!!! Many brides admit to mentally blacking out during that moment. HA! The exciting part was seeing Shelby put the ring on and give Brett the biggest hug! I revealed myself and Shelby was completely surprised! Kudos to Brett for planning all of the details from Florida and over a month in advance! The day he proposed was the first time he walked onto the Barboursville Vineyards grounds, but he pulled it off like a champ! It was 1 p.m. on an oddly scorching October day, but we wandered around the property taking newly engaged portraits!! Despite how hot it was, I think they look just a litttttle happy in their pictures. Just a little. 😉 Gosh, I love it!!!! It was great getting to know them during our short amount of time together, and I’m excited about their future adventures as a bride and groom!
