How to Save Money on Your Wedding Cake

How to Save Money on Your Wedding Cake

For anyone who knows Alex and me, we are money-cautious with our spendings. When it came to planning our wedding, we tried our very best to stick with our means of spending. So we got creative (more DIY posts to come about that!)! I want to share a little tip on how you can save money on your wedding cake! There are so many ideas out there, and I’ll try to blog about that another time. šŸ™‚ **I even made a note under my “blog ideas” note so I don’t forget!

I want to prompt this post by saying if you have the budget for a wedding cake … SPLURGE! It’s worth every bite and I want to encourage you to help support other small businesses like mine. With your support, we are able to continue growing, expanding, and serve you better!

Here are 4 Ways How to Save Money on Your Wedding Cake

Make it Personal

Even with our wedding, we still made the funds happen to support one of my FAVORITE bakers in Warrenton, Virginia. Shout out to Lora at Gateau! I knew a LONG time ago that she was going to be my wedding baker, and I’m so grateful we were able to make this happen. šŸ™‚ Her cakes are INCREDIBLY delicious and beautiful. I mean… just look at the proof below!!! I’m still blown away! In fact, Alex and I pulled out our cake from the freezer the other day and it’s still drool-worthy!

We opted for the personal-sized cake which was PERFECT for us!!! I loved this for a few reasons. 1) Again, we supported my FAVORITE baker! 2) The cake was absolutely delicious and GORGEOUS. 3) I love that we have leftovers for some wedding cake on our first anniversary!

Have Special Family Members Make a Cookie Bar!

I know … I know … You’re probably thinking, “But Stephanie, this isn’t cake!!!” Haha! Of course!!! BUT no one said a cake must be present at every wedding. I thought this would be encouraging to share to think outside of the box as an alternative to the traditional wedding cake. šŸ™‚

We asked special women in our lives to contribute to our cookie bar! I love this idea for several reasons. 1) It helps supply desserts for our guests. 2) Each of them made a treat that they were known for, which made us excited to share desserts we grew up loving! 3) By inviting the women we love to be a part of this made them feel a part of the day. 4) We appreciated their time and money to help make this station so loved!

Sheet Cake for the Guests!

Honestly, a huge cake doesn’t necessarily need to be presented on the dessert table for the guests. So why not provide a sheet cake in the back to be cut up and served during the reception? By skipping the decorative cake design, the cost drastically drops. I’m not sure if maybe your baker can supply the same flavors as your personal cake, but it might be something worth asking. šŸ™‚ Because my sister is an incredible cook/baker, it was SO special having her make our guest sheet cake! She even incorporated my parent’s wedding cake flavor, “Cherry Pecan with Almond Buttercream,” as well as some other yummy options like chocolate and lemon-raspberry! I was so grateful for her time and the HUGE contribution! It was a hit!!!

S’more Bar!

I’ve had couples in the past just offer a s’more bar! Why not? It’s YOUR wedding day. šŸ™‚ You can drastically cut costs by supplying graham crackers, an assortment of chocolates, and marshmallows. And it’s perfect for those evening weddings!!! We loved having a casual setting for our guests to enjoy the view.

I hope this inspires how you can save money on your wedding cake too!!!
