Dating Your Spouse | Pizza Night

Dating Your Spouse | Pizza Night

Before getting married, I had heard over and over again the importance of “dating” your spouse. ESPECIALLY when kids come into the picture! When you think back to the dating life before engagement, marriage, and kids, there’s no doubt the excitement of “newness.” Naturally, as time unfolds, the newness starts to wear away. But this doesn’t mean we should stop trying. πŸ™‚ What happens if there’s a way to keep dating your spouse? There are so many creative ideas out there, but I want to share one idea Alex and I love and actively do every week since the start of our marriage β€”Β Friday pizza + movie date night! We don’t have kids now, but when that day comes, we will have to figure out new creative ways to continue making time for each other. πŸ™‚ But for now, in our current married life, one of the ways I’m dating my spouse is through our weekly pizza date night!!!

What Does Dating Your Spouse Mean?

I remember when I first started dating Alex, I repeatedly heard that the “honeymoon phase will wear off soon!” But then I think about my darling, loving grandparents. Their honeymoon phase is still alive and thriving after 58 years (SERIOUSLY AMAZING!!!) of marriage!!! Talk about a beautiful example of how Alex and I want to live our lives!!

After chatting with my grandparents about their marriage, it sounds like they haven’t stopped dating each other. They are currently “retired,” yet own a successful property management company. Despite their crazy schedules running around daily, they still make time for each other. One of their favorite things to do is go to the movie theater together, pick up some yummy buttery popcorn, and take it home to watch a movie! HAHA! It’s so cute, but again, it’s something they do regularly and look forward to. Another thing they love to do together is going on double dates with their friends. It sounds like it’s a weekly thing for them, but it’s another beautiful example of how they witness each other’s life and want to be apart of it, despite how crazy business may be.

I believe my grandparent’s figured it out!

Why a Weekly Pizza + Movie Date Night?

Truthfully, I cannot take the credit for this idea! This “weekly pizza date night” was inspired by a family friend! Alex and I loved this idea because it’s cheap and EASY β€” The only cost is the pizza! And who doesn’t love a good pizza? We use Netflix or Hulu to make it super convenient and relaxing. πŸ™‚

We have our pizza date night consistently scheduled for every Friday night on our calendars. πŸ™‚ This has become a fun routine to keep up with throughout the months. And it kicks off the weekend on a restful note, don’t you think?

Which Pizza?

Alex and I prefer the easy, cheaper, and lazy route … We simply toss a frozen pizza into the oven. Haha! There are so many choices of pizza out there … I personally like the Quest pizza because of the low calorie/low carb/high protein, but there are cauliflower pizzas with simpler ingredients for those who are health cautious. And for Alex, he likes the carby PIZZA. Haha! BUT if you’re into cooking, why not make it fancy and build your own pizza together? Or maybe you can make it into a weekly food critic test and buy a pizza from local competitors each week to find your personal favorite! Get creative with this idea!!!

You’re going to think I’m ABSURD for sharing this photo of our freezer… HAHA! Back in December/January, I decided to take our monthly supply of food and make it into a huge grocery list, so I buy everything at once (except for the occasional fruit/veggies/milk trips). Ultimately, I have saved more money, time because I’m making fewer trips to the store, and I’m more prepared because I know our meal plans for the entire month! But yes, when you open our freezer at the beginning of each month, this is what you will find. πŸ™‚

Who Picks the Movie?

This is a funny question because Alex and my liking to movies are a little different. I’m more into comedy/romance movies while Alex loves the drama/action movies! So to compromisewe each take turns every week selecting a movie. Over the past months, Alex got to watch movies like Up and About Time. While I got to watch some of his selections like Inception (one of his FAVS) and Goodfellas

It’s funny because we both end up loving the other’s choices for that week! πŸ™‚ Even though his selection might not be something I would naturally go for, I’m happy that this is opening my eyes to different genres of movies!

I hope you enjoyed this post!!! Feel free to take this idea!!! And whether you take it or come up with your own spin on it, I hope this inspires/encourages you. <3 Most importantly, I hope you like this pizza + movie date night idea so that you continue dating your spouse!!!
