Amy and John gathered their closest family and friends at the charming Birkby House in the heart of Leesburg, Virginia for a wedding day full of love, laughter, and unexpected moments. Nestled in the historic district, this beautiful venue set the stage for a joyful celebration—despite a surprise protest just around the corner and an equally surprising rain shower mid-ceremony. Nothing could dampen their spirits, and I loved how they embraced every twist in the day with grace!
Amy & John’s Wedding Day
When I walked into the bridal suite, Amy and her girls were dancing to Taylor Swift—setting the tone for a relaxed, happy day. I immediately noticed Amy’s sparkly gown, which was so fitting for Swift’s “Love Story” vibes. As soon as she slipped into it, she looked like a true princess—ready to twirl her way down the aisle!
Amy is the youngest of three sisters, so this was a particularly sweet day for her family. Her gentle, joyful presence made the day feel even more special.
Thanks to their first look, we were able to get most of the portraits done before the ceremony—one of the many perks of seeing each other early! Despite the hot and muggy weather, Amy and John handled it all like pros, sneaking in cool breaks indoors between portraits. And can we talk about the purple parasols Amy brought? Such a fun touch for the bridal party!
The Ceremony
The ceremony began outdoors in Birkby’s lush garden, with adorable nieces and nephews leading the way. One of the little ones took a tumble during her flower girl dash—but in true fairytale fashion, guests swooped in to fix her shoe and gather her petals. It was the cutest moment despite the tears!
Halfway through the ceremony, the skies opened up with rain—but Amy and John didn’t miss a beat. They smiled through it all, and the amazing Alyssa from B Mingled was quick to grab umbrellas for the guests. Despite the weather, I’m so glad they stuck with their outdoor ceremony. It was beautiful, heartfelt, and full of unforgettable moments, including surprising the mothers with roses. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, everyone dashed inside for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and laughter.
The Party
Just in time for the party, the sun came out! Guests gathered in the conservatory, escaping the humidity for an evening of celebration. And can we give a round of applause to Amy’s hair? It stayed flawless through rain, humidity, and dancing! 😂
Craig Styles DJ brought the energy, and everyone hit the dance floor—including John’s grandmother, who stole the show by dancing with her walker at one point! The joy in the room was contagious, and it was such a treat to document every moment.
