I’ve photographed at the beautiful Georgetown, DC many times for sessions, but I have never seen it as crowded as it was the day Matt, Lauren and I met up last week! Maybe it was the weather … I mean, at that point it was rare for the sun to be shining in the evening after all of the rain we had over the past month. Despite the crowds, we made these photos work! Patience is the key. 🙂 Especially in the canal! The canal is a popular place for foot traffic and for good reasons. It’s SO pretty! With the sun setting in the backdrop, the colors were so dreamy and lush!
We originally met up for coffee months ago and immediately clicked! Lauren is super cute and bubbly while Matt is outgoing and laid back. Together, they make one adorable and sweet couple! I was personally excited that they are working with my dear friend, Jennifer from MayJune Events, AND their wedding is at the ever-so-gorgeous Morais Vineyards! Since moving, I now live just three minutes away from the venue making it the shortest drive to a wedding! Whoop! Whoop! After photographing Matt and Lauren, I’m even more excited to see them on their wedding day all dressed to the nines. They were beaming with joy and happiness in Georgetown and I’m sure that will just be even more so in July! <3
MATT & LAUREN’S LOVE STORY
How Matt and Lauren Met
from Lauren’s perspective
Matt and I first met in the fall of 2007 through mutual friends at a house party. I was actually a senior in high school at the time and Matt was a sophomore in college at George Mason University. Matt had asked me if I wanted to join him to play a card game, and from there I was instantly attracted to him. We ran into each other a couple of times since that night and casually hung out a few more times. As life has it, the timing wasn’t exactly right and we went about our life in separate directions. About 4 years later after just getting out of a relationship, Matt and I ran into each other again at a bar. I went up to him and said hi (I later found out he was actually on a date that night!) which led to him immediately texting me later that night and then courting me for a few months, since I wasn’t quite ready to jump back into a relationship right away. It wasn’t too much longer though that he won my heart and made me the happiest girl alive!
How Matt Proposed to Lauren
from Matt’s perspective
I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Lauren after a few weeks of dating. I even slipped up and told her that I loved her after being together for only 2 weeks. I’m sure glad that I didn’t scare her away! Being that I knew I wanted to be with Lauren forever, I wanted to do what I considered to be the right thing, and ask for her parent’s blessing to marry her. To set this meeting up I contacted Lauren’s sister, Callie, who gave her parents the heads up that I wanted to speak with them. I don’t know if I have ever been this nervous before, but things went extremely well and Mark and Kathy gave me their permission to ask for Lauren’s hand in marriage. We exchanged hugs then Lauren walked in the door and we all acted like we were just chatting about the weather or something along those lines. From there, I once again asked for Callie’s help to pick out an engagement ring. Man did she do a great job helping me! I am by no means a jewelry expert, but I can tell you that the ring is very unique, but more importantly, Lauren loved the style. The proposal came on the same day that Lauren and I moved in with each other. I once again asked Callie how I should go about the proposal and she told me that Lauren wouldn’t want a big production, but that she would rather be surprised. I thought to myself, who would expect to get engaged after moving boxes in and out of an apartment? After getting most of the boxes moved into our new place I asked Lauren to come help me move something. As she came out of the bedroom I got down on one knee, told her that I loved her, then asked her if she would marry me. She said yes making me the happiest guy in the world! From there, we spent an amazing night in Annapolis, MD capped off by a great dinner and walk around town. It was a perfect end to an exciting day.
Thank you Matt and Lauren for a fantastic time in Georgetown!!! I cannot WAIT for your Morais Vineyard wedding NEXT MONTH! Eekkk! You two are going to look stunning! For now, enjoy the remainder of your engagement! This has been so much fun getting to know you two … Next time I’m up there, we need to get together for Georgetown Cupcakes!! 🙂 Enjoy a preview from our time together!! XOXO!
