When it came time to purchase bar stools, I’m not sure why I thought they would be cheaper than a typical dining room chair… Depending on the style, they can be the same cost as a living room accent chair! Yikes! Since I created budgets for every room, I knew I didn’t want to spend $300 on two bar stools. However, I also knew that I didn’t want to purchase Ikea bar stools to only upgrade in the future. Where’s the balance in that?! I was after the “french country” style but wasn’t even sure how to find that without the hefty price tag.
With the french country vision in mind, I was after the curvy legs, a padded seat and a bar stool with back support. I spent HOURS online trying to find a set for months. Sometimes you just have to give it time before you find the right piece! I’m glad that the time paid off because I ran across a deal on the local online yardsale Facebook group! Immediately, I contacted the owner to see if she has had other people reach out to her. After telling me that they could be mine, I hesitated at the thought that the bar stools might not be tall enough for my counter. ** When shopping for a bar stool, keep height in mind!!! I checked out THIS chart and found it super helpful and reassuring when asking her for dimensions!! I was able to say YES and saved myself at least half the amount I budgeted!! Score! The metal looked like it was in great condition when I picked it up so the only thing I needed to fix was the cushion fabric. Changing out the fabric really transforms the look and knowing this could be done within an hour, I went for it!

If you want a visual (since I didn’t take photos of the reupholstery process), check out this blog HERE as it is very similar to how I reupholstered my bar stools! First, unscrewed the seat from the chair. Second, lay your chosen upholstery fabric face down on the table and place seat upside down on the fabric. Map out how much fabric you need by stretching it around the seat and cut desired amount so that the fabric completely covers the seat and around the sides. Third, take one end of the fabric and staple in the middle. Go to the opposite end and stretch the fabric so it’s nice and snug and staple it again. I like to staple one staple on all four sides to make sure the fabric is centered and snug before stapling one entire side in place. Once the middle sections of all four sides are stapled down, it’s time to tackle the corners. There are different ways to staple down the corners, but I found this way easy! Pinch the fabric corner as close to the seat as possible to create a shape of an ear or flap with the excess fabric. Staple along each side of the ear at 45 degrees from the corner to secure it down. If you want to see an example, here is a video HERE for you to check out what the corner looks like. Trim off excess fabric! Once the fabric is stapled and cut down, you can screw it back on to the chair and it’s ready to go!!
