Pixie | Personal

I was going to do a blog post on some sort of business related topic … but you know what? It’s Friday and the start of the WEEKEND and you haven’t seen Pixie on here in a LONG time since the infamous Birthday celebration that we all had a laugh over, so I think it is about time for a Pixie update! 😉 First, my boyfriend is fully convinced that I’m obsessed with her. This may or may not be true, but I won’t deny! She’s only the coolest cat around!

I cannot believe that I have moved into my place for almost a year now … where has the time gone?! Since moving into here, I realized that Pixie cannot go out on her lonesome self as she did at my parents. I came from a farm with land surrounding the house, so letting her outside was not a big deal at all because she knew if she wanted to eat, she would need to come back home. Where I’m renting for the moment, it’s a really nice place but there is a road about 50 yards away. Not ideal for letting Pixie outside. Last year, I would work outside and let her run around as she was still very cautious of her new surroundings … then she became TOO comfortable with the space and would run up a tree. That wasn’t a very good day for me. Haha!

Solution? Purchase a leash! Okay … okay, this does sound RIDICULOUS to most but it works! I’ll laugh with you about this because I never thought about putting her on a cat leash until I moved here. She is SO well trained that it will probably make you laugh hearing how in routine she is about the leash!

I have a pretty good daily routine to my workday … majority of the time, I’ll be in my office emailing, editing or writing my blog post out when I hear these really sorry cries from downstairs next to the door. She only does this when the sun is out! If it is raining, she doesn’t bother which I’m thankful for because I definitely don’t want to go outside in the rain! Sometimes I’ll give in and answer to her cries, other times I’m too busy to even think about going outside. And speaking of which, there was one day where she REALLY wanted to go outside that she even managed to get her leash out from a basket into the middle of the floor!!!! Right now, I’m currently writing this blog post outside with pixie next to me because FINALLY it’s a good day out with the sun shining and she knew this immediately and started her cries at the door earlier than usual!

Snapped these with my IPhone cam. 🙂 Sorry for the embarrassment, Pixie!

When I can go outside, I’ll go over to her leash and snap the cord she knows that I’m taking her outside (built this in my training with her). She will immediately run to the door and wait for me to open it to the screen door. There, I will strap her into her harness. I will admit that I laugh every time I do this because she doesn’t hesitate at all to let me do this to her!!! She will sit there patiently and sometimes purr as I strap her in … okay, seriously what cat would enjoy being strapped into a harness? Haha! If I have to adjust it by loosening or tightening it, she will let me adjust it and not move! So thankful for a patient cat! After she’s strapped in, I’ll open the door and she will cautiously walk out and scope out the area looking for new bugs to play with or mole to dig up. At least she’s amused while I do business work! Oh! And when there is “danger crossing by” … like a tractor or a very loud truck, then she immediately runs to the front door. I’m glad she knows where her “safety zone” is. 🙂

If you have a cat and it desperately wants to go outside and adventure, I highly suggest doing this and train train train your cat about the leash! At least you know that you’re not the only person who does this! 😉 HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

This is hilarious! I will say, though, the day you told me that she BROUGHT HER HARNESS TO YOU and you IGNORED her, it was so sad!! Poor Pixie! 🙂

  2. Lauren Swann says:

Oh my gosh, this is hilarious!!!

  3. Caitlin C says:

This makes me think even more that Pippa and Pixie need to meet! Pippa wants a leash so bad (we may or may not put words into her mouth) but we haven’t trained her yet. 😉

  4. Kristen Uhler says:

This is so funny… but you got me thinking… lol! I don’t let Maizey out because we live too close to a busy road. But the harness is a GREAT idea, albeit hilarious!

  5. Brandilynn Aines says:

umm, my cat loves to be outside this is the greatest idea ever!!!!

  6. Lindsay Rose says:

So funny! I have a cat that is a little too obsessed with trying to Houdini his way outside. I might have to invest in a leash. 🙂
