Guest Bedroom | DIY Bed Canopy with Curtain Rods

DIY Guest Bedroom | Bed canopy using two curtain rods

Believe it or not, the guest bedroom was the first room decorated and finished before any other room in the house! I was inspired once I decided that it was going to be my “beachy room”! When I was renting, I had a mixture of decorating elements … it was a little all over the place! Starting from a clean slate, I made the conscious decision to clarify what style I was after. I gathered all of my decorating details and realized that I had a lot of beach themed stuff that I could not use throughout the house. I didn’t want to get rid of them because … well, who doesn’t love the beach?! Dedicating those decorations to one room, specifically the guest bedroom, was the best and most reasonable choice. I’ll be sharing the entire guest bedroom on the blog soon, but I wanted to share a fun feature that always has guests “owing”! It’s SUPER easy so I hope this inspires you!!

I had leftover curtain drapery from my old bedroom and I had no use for it in my new place … Or so I thought! Originally, I was looking to use it in front of my laundry room since I don’t have doors to conceal the washer and dryer. However, the drapery looked too bulky in the hallway! After doing a little more decorating in the guest bedroom, I was inspired by the airiness in the color scheme. I thought about that time my mom and I made a canopy over my sister’s bed a LONG time ago. So why not do something like that in the guest bedroom? I wanted to make this bedroom a little escape for my guests to relax and enjoy their stay! 🙂 I ventured on to Pinterest and found different styles of bed canopies which then led me to creating this simple DIY curtain rod bed canopy!

You just need sheer fabric and two curtain rods!  The sheer fabric will vary in size depending on the size of your bed and the height of your ceiling. When choosing the two curtain rods, make sure to think how this will be secured to the ceiling. You don’t want the rod to fall out! That would be a disaster… Lol! Also, when securing the rod to the ceiling, make sure to have screw anchors because more than likely you’re not going to have that support in the dry wall. This project only took me 30 minutes at most with the measuring/marking/drilling/hanging! If you want to add another fun element, take a string of lights and drape it over the draped fabric. It was so much fun watching the room come together with this statement piece! 🙂

Here are the results!!!
