Adam & Cindy | Skyline Drive, Virginia Engagement Photographer

After months of prepping for this session, it was clear how excited all of us were about photographing on Skyline Drive! One of my personal favorite locations! 🙂 Whether it’s traveling for business or personal time, the views speak for itself! During Adam and Cindy’s session, it was as if we were above the clouds for the evening. 🙂 The sunset was incredible!! Always a plus! You know what made me even more excited? When I saw their outfits! So stylish, especially when they changed into their formal attire. SO DREAMY!!!! I had the best time getting to know Adam and Cindy during our time together and can only imagine how fun and beautiful their fall wedding will be this year!! They even surprised me with an adorable gift at the end of the session!! How cute and thoughtful are they?! <3 Cannot wait for September!!!

Adam and Cindy’s Love Story

How Adam and Cindy Met
from Cindy’s point of view

I like to tell people I met Adam by picking him out of a catalog…  We actually met online on OKCupid, so it’s not that far from the truth!  I had just finished graduate school and moved to Alexandria, VA for a new job.  I didn’t know many people in the area yet, and a coworker convinced me online dating may be a good way to ease into dating and meeting people in the new region.  The website was free, and I figured I didn’t have anything to lose.

The way OKCupid works, at least at the time, is that you answer as many questions as you’d like about your values and views on everything from politics to religion to how you spend your free time, and everything in between.  You also rank how strongly you feel about your response.  You can then indicate how your ideal spouse would answer and rank how strongly you feel about them answering that way.  It’s actually a pretty detailed and efficient algorithm!

I went through and answered many, many questions.  I then did my first search and admittedly set my sights optimistically high to see what I was dealing with.  I put in that I was looking for a male approximately my age, 6 foot tall, athletic, Christian, and with a PhD.  As I said, I was aiming high!  Not expecting anyone to fit this criteria, I clicked “Search” and “Sort by Percentage Match.”  Adam popped up as the first result, with a 99% match based on how we both answered our questions.  I messaged him, telling him I kind of like that it was only a 99% match, as I always believe there is room for improvement.  As soon as we met, I knew our lives would never be the same, and we’re excited to continue working on that last percent!

How Adam Proposed to Cindy
from Adam’s point of view

The engagement was simultaneously a long time coming and spur of the moment.  I decided early on that our spring vacation to Northern Italy afforded an excellent opportunity.   In the months before our trip I stayed up late under the guise of car shopping, when in reality I was researching all the complexities and intricacies of engagement rings. With ring finally in hand, I wrapped the ring in a sock (a clean sock, mind you), and stuffed it in a tea tin in the bottom of my backpack.  That backpack never left my sight. A few days into our trip we found ourselves poking around the lovely Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore.  Late in the afternoon we finally stumbled across a secluded spot on the island looking out on the Alps.  I clumsily fumbled around feigning a photo op, though still managed some modicum of surprise when I got down on one knee with a ring (sans-sock) in hand.  A few happy tears and an affirmative answer later, we happily wandered through the gardens. One of the first things Cindy did was to proudly display her new ring to a white peacock roaming the grounds.  It didn’t seem terribly impressed, but I was, and remain, supremely impressed and enthralled with my bride.

Thank you, Adam and Cindy, for making the hike up to Skyline Drive! Beautiful evening and memories together. 🙂 Best dressed award from the campsite, too! 😉 HAHA! Enjoy looking through some of my favorites from our time together! Congrats on your engagement!!! Also, a shoutout to Cindy’s makeup artist at Best Face Forward!!
