I’m excited to conclude the week with this session on top of the mountains of Virginia! One of my favorite spots and it was the ideal backdrop for David and Megan’s engagement session. 🙂 Of course, we couldn’t forget to include their fur baby, Savannah!!! She totally hammed it up in front of the camera too! Haha! The funny part was Megan told me that she tells Savannah every day that she’s the prettiest pup. Well, looking at these photos below, I think Savannah must know she’s the prettiest because she was all smiles for the camera. 🙂
After my first meeting with Megan and David, I was excited to get them in front of my camera! They warned me at first that they didn’t really know what to expect, but I think every couple gets nervous before stepping in front of the camera — EVEN ME!! But they showed who they were in front of the camera like it was a piece of cake. 🙂 They were playful, loving, and so happy!! You would think by having Savannah there with them also eased any nerves going into our time together, but I really, they were so easy going and sooooo darn precious. At one point, I was concerned after Megan mentioned that she’s not the best with heels … Mind you, she said this while standing close to a steep drop. HA! She did fabulously until she stepped off the rock onto solid ground when there was a little twist action that happened. My heart dropped because my ankles do the same thing in heels! And actually… I did it the other day wearing flat boots walking in the middle of a parking lot! Ha! We all laughed it off, but I hinted to her that maybe flats might be the way to go for the big day. 😉
David and Megan are easy to talk to and they adore each other so much! … And we cannot forget to include Savannah in that love triangle. 😉 We were soooo fortunate because when we were heading up to Skyline Drive, we could have sworn there was going to be little rain action. We lucked out and even had beautiful golden light to photograph! Check out all of their photos along with the beautiful finale backdrop!!!
David and Megan’s Love Story
HOW DAVID AND MEGAN MET
from Megan’s point of view
HOW DAVID PROPOSED TO MEGAN
from David’s point of view
I’m a decisive yet patient guy, so I’ve known for years that I would be spending the rest of my life with Megan, I just wanted to be in a more sound financial situation before I bought the ring of her dreams and planned the wedding we both have always wanted. After 8 months (actually) of looking at rings and not falling for the “right ring” I finally found it and got it on the spot, the problem was it was nearly 2 months prior to the engagement date! I hid the ring in my closet behind my jerseys for various DC sports teams (she’s never going to touch these or go back there- I thought) and patiently planned out the day with the help of my sisters and mom all while checking on the ring daily and pulling it out to admire it while Megan was showering and I knew I was safe. However, I returned home from work one day and Megan announced to me that she cleaned my closets and my heart dropped, I truly thought she found it. After probing passively about finding anything of interest I figured that she didn’t actually find the ring because she is truly the worst liar I’ve ever met and she would be an emotional wreck had she actually found it!
Anyways, my sisters Lainey and Emily, as well as my mom Cindy and I were researching wineries to “pop the question” at for the entire month prior and finally found the place. We went to tour it and met with an event designer that normally handles weddings, but since the staff was amazing and accommodating came up with an entire plan to have Megan come on a “girls day” to the winery with my sisters and mom. I was careful to give passive comments and subliminal messages about “being prepared to take a bunch of photos because you know how my sisters are” and even recruited Megan’s mom to get involved to get their nails done the morning of (an absolute must, I was told)! The day came and the plan was set, I would arrive at the winery half an hour prior to Megan and the girls and wait down near the barrel room with Megan’s whole family and my brothers/Dad to surprise them. Once they arrived, I was receiving a bunch of texts from Megan about how she was in love with the venue and thought it would be an amazing wedding location, along with a bunch of photos, little did she know we were directly beneath her on the next level waiting. We got the message to move to the barrel room where I would wait for her and I had a moment of panic when I remembered that I was so caught up in planning the details about people getting there that I hadn’t come up with anything to say to her when I actually saw her, so I quickly ran through thoughts and pegged down my words. We heard them approaching from down the hallway laughing and while Megan’s family and my brothers/dad were hiding behind wine barrels out of her sight, she came into the room and I walked towards her to the welcoming words “what are you doing here?” She’s a romantic and knows how to make the moment, so I spoke the words I still remember, “Meggie, we’ve had over 6 years of memories together and I can’t wait to make it a lifetime of memories, will you marry me.” Not the most articulate, but for 5 minutes of planning it wasn’t the worst effort! The rest is history, and sure enough after doing other venue tours, our hearts were set on where we got engaged for our wedding venue, Stone Tower Winery.
Thank you, David and Megan, for making the hike to Skyline Drive and taking photos on a cliff with a pup!!! Haha! I know that can be a little nerve-wracking, but I love the results! <3 I cannot wait to see you all again this fall and document another joyful celebration. Enjoy this preview from our time together!!! XOXO!
When you think Goldens are smart and then they start chasing their owner around a tree to catch up with them. HAHA!
