Back in August, I had the honor of photographing one of my Florida friends in Colorado Springs!!! How did I end up in Colorado Springs taking maternity portraits as her photographer all the way from Florida? Well, when I made the announcement that I was moving to Colorado Springs this summer, Kayla couldn’t wait to chat all about it because she grew up here! 🙂 Now… only if there was a way to convince the military to move Brad and Kayla back … HAHA!
After we moved to Colorado in July, I was excited to reconnect with Kayla a month later to celebrate her baby shower! During her visit, we spontaneously planned a last-minute maternity session to celebrate this beautiful season!! Although it was a pretty smokey day, the golden light was unreal!!! And Kayla looked AMAZING with her baby bump! She’s already making motherhood look GOOD! 🙂 Also, I love that they included their first babies in these photos … their furry babies! <3
During our short time together taking these photos, I quickly learned a valuable lesson… Colorado has cacti. Everywhere. In fact, we ran into a tall grassy field for these photos… And being that it was summertime, I wore sandals. Within a couple of minutes into the shoot, my foot was in pain. I looked down and the bottom of my foot was COVERED in fine needles! So fine that it looked like the bottom of my foot was covered in blonde hair. I didn’t want to take too much time away from the golden light, so I quickly pulled out as many needles as I could and limped the rest of the session avoiding the cacti hiding in the tall grass. HA! But it was worth it for these photos, and I’m glad they didn’t get pricked!!
How I met Kayla
It’s amazing how God connects us with people from all over — I had NO idea I was going to be married into the military lifestyle that would expand my friendships all over the country! When I first landed in Destin, Florida, I quickly got involved with a small group. Ten in a Circle then connected me with Kayla! She got to watch my pregnancy progress, she listened/prayed for my concerns about labor/delivery, and even met Jack just days after he was born! I was so grateful to have her and our small group in my life during that season!!! I wish we could all be there together for her during this season too!
Our small group prayed that God would bless Brad and Kayla with a precious little one in the near future. We felt confident that it would happen, but little did we know that God would answer that prayer quickly after she gave her testimonial the beginning of this year … and now they are just DAYS away from meeting their baby!!! UNREAL. I pray for a safe labor/delivery, a healthy mama/baby, a community that she can lean on if she needs help/advice (WE are all here for you, girl!!), and plenty of time to enjoy all of the baby snuggles with Brad!!! <3
