My heart eye emoji is at max capacity with this sweet couple. Rhett and Caroline have the natural ability to be completely them in front of the camera. <3 Love and joy radiates from within and I love how well that was documented. I cannot wait to photograph them again on their wedding day! 🙂 When we spoke about engagement portraits, Great Falls National Park came to mind. I love that we had a little hint of “beach” atmosphere in these photos after we hiked down to the water too.
Rhett and Caroline are so easy-going… In fact, I was very impressed with Caroline! We had to hike down a pretty rocky trail to get down to a part of the park. Mind you, it wasn’t a walk in the park. It was more like climb down big boulders. Ha! Not only did she manage in a pretty long dress, but she did it in heels! Pretty impressive if I must say. 🙂 I’m sure Rhett was thinking, “That’s the woman I am marrying!” It’s undeniable how happy these two are with each other.
Initially, we weren’t quite sure this session was going to happen because they lived across the country. As you can imagine, traveling back and forth wasn’t very frequent. We even tried to make something happen when I was visiting California (obviously that didn’t work). However, the stars aligned and they moved back to VA after relocating jobs. 🙂 With their new jobs and living close Washington DC, we decided to keep their engagement local/adventurous and met at Great Falls National Park.
I love seeing these two together and cannot wait to document their love again next month!!!!! SO CLOSE! YAY!!!
Caroline and Rhett’s Love Story
HOW CAROLINE AND RHETT MET

Caroline and I met for the first time in May 2012 when we were both about to go on different study abroad trips through Virginia Tech. It was a brief introduction that we didn’t think much about because we were both in separate relationships at the time. Five months later we crossed paths again, but still the timing wasn’t right. January of 2013 rolled around, and it was the first day of spring semester. I saw an attractive girl walking in front of me who was going into the same class as I was. So I sat down next to her so I could introduce myself, but before the words could come out of my mouth she said, “Rhett, right? I think we’ve met before.” She jokingly recounted our previous introductions which made me thoroughly embarrassed, but I still sat next to her and we talked every class. I loved her smile and how she thought I was funny. All I wanted to do was make her smile as much as possible (even if it meant passing notes in class).
We started liking each other more and more and eventually started dating. The more time we spent together the more I realized that she wasn’t just one of the most beautiful girls I’d ever seen, but she also incredibly genuine, kind, creative, and incredibly funny herself. I felt (and still feel) like the luckiest man in the world to be with her. It wasn’t long before I knew I had found the one.
HOW RHETT PROPOSED TO CAROLINE

Caroline had been telling me for years that she didn’t want to be engaged until we were 26 so I knew I could only properly surprise her if we were still 25. The tricky part was that we were living in California at the time and I wanted to make sure I asked in Virginia where she grew up. It was in August 2017 when I decided I would surprise her with tickets to fly home in November to visit family and friends.
Caroline and I had lived in Alexandria, Virginia before we moved to California, so I planned for our friends to meet that weekend for brunch in one of our favorite spots, Old Town Alexandria. I made sure to tell our friends prior to brunch that they had to come up with excuses to leave right afterward so that Caroline and I would be alone. After brunch we walked outside until I led us to a park where we used to picnic. As she was walking ahead of me, I got down on one knee and called her name to have her turn to me. I asked her to marry me and (after a few seconds of stunned silence) she said yes!
