Mud Room Decor | DIY Prepping Space

Mud Room Decor | DIY Prepping Stations

After signing official paperwork back in September, I realized how important a coat closet was and that I took all of them out of the picture in order to have half baths. I knew I needed a space to hang coats so I went back and forth between different ideas, from a coat stand hanger or wall hooks. I ran across the perfect coat hook hanger at Marshalls! I mean, who doesn’t love a great deal especially when it has character?! I picked it up hoping it will fit in the space somehow. After officially owning the house, I started working some magic!

First, my mom mentioned to me that if my house was going to be a “shoes off” house, I need to have a bench or somewhere to sit down to take off shoes. Fortunately, I had a bench I bought a while back that I was able to use in the entry way. It seemed like the space was meant for the bench!! I’m glad I was able to use it instead of storing it along with the other leftover furniture in my garage for sale. 😉 Now I have a designated spot to store shoes and slippers under the bench making it a useable space. After analyzing the entry way, I found that the coat hanger was able to fit by the stair way (thank goodness!). Since the hooks protrude far from the wall, I didn’t want people bumping their heads in the hallway. This section of the hallway was just big enough where I didn’t have to worry about that so I’m glad I was able to make it work rather than strategize an alternative plan. 🙂

To make the space come to life, why not add some personality with curtains, a rug, plant and just little details like an antique window! I didn’t think I had a “mud room” but once I started designing the space, it was meant to be one! There was only one thing I was trying to resolve. A good place to store belongings as I run out the door, as what I like to call the “prepping station”. 🙂 This is where keys are stored, mints, chap stick and a mirror to make sure hair is good to go. Haha! I had a decorative mirror I bought a while back ago, along with two random corbels from Home Depot. I originally bought the corbels for the kitchen island but found that I couldn’t use them. I intended to return the corbels until I came up with a nifty way to utilize them! I ran out to Home Depot and had them cut me a 24 inch piece of wood. After I had the pieces to make a prepping shelf work, I painted the two corbels and the piece of wood. After installing the corbels to the wall, I glued the piece of wood on top of the corbels to secure it and create the shelf. The perfect little space to put down sunglasses and other random “to go” items! I installed a little hook under the shelf to hang my purse to make it even more useful. Kind of like what they do at wineries/bars! 🙂 Love the results!!!

I love how this entry way space has turned into a functional mud/prepping room!!!

Hope this inspires you to create your own little prepping space as well. 🙂 It’s not expensive and it’s functional!!

  2. I love this! I just bought a home myself and have been slowly pulling together my entryway. I have two 2-shelf bookcases that holds our shows, keys, storage bins, pictures, etc., but a month ago, I completed hated it so I am slowing working my way to updating the space. I love your space, definitely inspired! Great job!
