As I have learned from experience, when the weather forecasters issue a “wind advisory,” you have to take it seriously. I’ve had more windy sessions lately than ever, and after experiencing that crazy wind storm back in February, I try to not mess around with the warning. Well, a few years ago, I attempted to fly out and photograph these family portraits, but a blizzard hit the east coast (like over a foot of snow!!!) and pushed our plans to the side. I knew we had to make this happen again in the future! When I saw my schedule had an opening before the wedding season craziness began this year, we lined up our plans and made it happen. 🙂 Before I knew it, I was on my way out to Las Vegas to hang out with this dear family!!
While I was visiting, we explored the desert and hiked many pretty scenic trails. I’ll be posting more about the recreational part of the trip in the next couple of weeks because it was AMAZING! 🙂 When we figured out our plan for their family portraits, we saw a “wind advisory” the day we were anticipating to take photos. Jess told me the wind storms are no joke out there, so we decided to do a sunrise session instead of sunset to avoid the wind craziness. WELL, to our surprise, after getting up bright and early, the wind decided to say HELLO earlier than the forecasters predicted. As soon as we stepped out of the car, our breath was taken away. You NEVER would guess we were battling with gusts trying to knock us off our feet. It was insane!! I knew we had to make the most of our time together even though it was brief. The kids were FREEZING and the wind was whipping Jess’ hair in all different directions. But you know what? Every time they quickly whipped off their coats to jump in front of the camera, they wore smiles as if they were in 80-degree sunshine! It can be tricky, though, because kids can’t put on a tough face and feel comfortable when we are dealing with weather conditions like that, but they were SO great!!! We ran around Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas, and I absolutely loved the outfits they wore to compliment their surroundings! The pinky/pastel color pallet was perfect for this family session!!! 🙂 I’m excited to share them with you today!
Thank you, Dawson family, for welcoming me into your beautiful home!!! I loved spending the long weekend with you and your lovely family, as well as seeing this beautiful side of Las Vegas! 🙂 Enjoy some of my many favorites from our time together!! Love you all! XOXO!
